Exactly when did the Republic die?

Some say it unofficially died in 1948 when the modern national security state was born. It's also possible that LBJ killed the Republic *and* JFK. I'm not officially a historian (but at least I know what a woman is) and my opinion is that the Republic died during Obama's first term when "look at what your government must do for you!" replaced "what should you do for your country."

I would contend that the seeds to our current fascist state were planted during and under the direction of Woodrow Wilson and his administration. FDR expanded that role with his New Deal policies. LBJ's "Great Society" solidified the direction of the new hybrid fascist/Marxist administrative bureaucracy and it all culminated under the direction of Bush Redux and Obama, namely the Patriot Act and the "Charter of negative liberties" rhetoric. Either way, no matter how one views it, we do not currently operate as a Republic bent towards liberty and it will be a huge task if we are to revert this nation back to its founding ideals.
