Zohran Saves
If you want Zohran's ideal society, you must pay for it with a revolution. After that, good luck getting your free groceries.
Assuming that NYC residents pay $3000 a month in rent, have one child under 5, and take 8 bus trips a day, Zohran Mamdani says they will “save” $28,000 a year under his government (do your own calculation here). This is beyond the savings from “city-owned grocery stores” and lower crime rates promised by a “Department of Community Safety.” Sounds good, right?
What Zohran doesn’t say is that the “annual savings” occurs when his government takes from people with the ability, and gives to people with the need (see Karl Marx). That’s what Lenin said, too, when he was a member of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party (before he founded the Russian Communist Party).
Zohran is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, and what DSA members never say is that in between capitalism and the communist economy they want is a period of revolutionary transformation and political transition when the state can be nothing but a dictatorship.
But don’t take my word for it. You can read it for yourself in Vladimir Lenin’s “The Proletarian Revolution and the Renegade Kautsky.”
If you still want the “free stuff” society promised by Zohran and Vladimir, then you must pay for it with the blood of a revolution. There’s no other way forward.
If that still sounds good, you should know that such a revolution can only occur with the intentional use of massive violence unrestricted by any laws. And if you think “no one is above the law” in that society, good luck navigating past the Community Safety Officers on your trip to get Free Groceries.
